Tech Prep Tuesday Newsletter September 8, 2009
CATEMA (Career and Technology Education Management Application) CATEMA is a web-based application designed to identify Career & Technology students who may have Tech Prep articulated credit in escrow. CATEMA helps to identify these students to college Advisors who will make sure they are advised appropriately. School districts can also use the reports generated by CATEMA to help them with PEIMS coding. Teacher training on CATEMA is available for school districts. Training can be given during a teacher In-service, in which it could be combined with additional Tech Prep information, or if you are with a larger district a training date can be scheduled where each teacher meets with the CATEMA trainer throughout the day during his/her conference period. REMINDER!!! The CATEMA system is now ready for school districts to begin entering classes and students for the 2009 – 2010 school year. School districts that have not participated in CATEMA in the past but have a local articulation agreement with Central Texas College or Temple College, or have a teacher that is eligible to teach Advanced Technical Credit (ATC) courses, and would like to participate in CATEMA, can contact Misty Harrell at 254.298.8483 or mharrell@templejc.edu. Local Articulation Workshops “In May 2007, the 80th Texas Legislature passed HB 3485, requiring the State Board of Education (SBOE) by rule to revise the essential knowledge and skills for career and technical education not later than September 1, 2009. The SBOE appointed writing teams to make recommendations for revisions to the CTE Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). Writing teams have been working since Spring 2008 to review the current CTE TEKS and make recommendations for revisions” (http://ritter.tea.state.tx.us/teks/cteTEKS.html). Due to the revision of TEKS, the Central Texas Tech Prep Consortium will not host a local articulation workshop during the fall semester. The consortium plans to have local articulation meetings for all CTE program areas at a later date. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Sherry Hollinger at 254.298.8482 or shollin@templejc.edu, or Misty Harrell at 254.298.8483 or mharrell@templejc.edu. Please continue to check Tech Prep Tuesday for further updates.
